Inga Rumpf is turning 80.
For more than six decades, the singer, songwriter and musician has shaped German music history with her unmistakable voice — fearless, versatile and truly one of a kind.
Born in Hamburg, Rumpf began her career in the 1960s with the City Preachers before achieving international acclaim as the frontwoman of Frumpy and Atlantis. Over the years, she toured with artists including B.B. King, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Lionel Richie. She also wrote ‘I Wrote A Letter’, a song later recorded by Tina Turner and released on Turner’s 1982 comeback single ‘Let’s Stay Together.’ In 1987, Rumpf jammed in London with Rolling Stones legends Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards.
“Keith Richards was my hero—I absolutely love the Stones,” Rumpf recalls in her autobiography Darf ich was vorsingen? (May I Sing Something for You?). Recordings from those sessions were finally released in 2021 as the bonus album ‘Hidden Tracks’.
Musical Birthday Celebration at the Elbphilharmonie
On September 13, 2026, Inga Rumpf will celebrate her 80th birthday with a special concert titled ‘Inga 80′ at the Grand Hall of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie. The concert sold out shortly after tickets went on sale.
“My Hamburg forever, my Elbphilharmonie for a very special day: On September 13, 2026, I’ll celebrate my birthday in this world-famous cultural landmark, together with wonderful musical guests and, of course, my loyal fans,” says Inga Rumpf.
Joined by her long-time band Friends and a lineup of renowned Very Special Guests, she will take audiences on a musical journey spanning more than 60 years of her extraordinary career.
The Concert Becomes a Live Album
The anniversary concert will be professionally recorded and released later in 2026 as the live album ‘Inga 80′ via earMUSIC. Available on CD, double vinyl and digital formats, the album will capture an unforgettable evening filled with musical companions, emotional highlights and timeless songs. Fans can already pre-order the physical editions now.
With ‘Inga 80′, Inga Rumpf continues her successful collaboration with earMUSIC. Following the acclaimed studio album Universe Of Dreams, the Hamburg-based label will also release this document of an exceptional concert and a milestone celebration.
